od Leggett – 1969 was the Club’s first life member. A legendary sweep who was one of the founding fathers of the Club. He was awarded life membership.
Ken Vance – 1975 - He was the Clubs 1st President Tremendous supporter of our Club Prominent member of the Warilla Bowls Club “Vice President for many years. Up until his death in 1998, he was a familiar figure walking along his beloved beach. He maintained a keen interest in the Club He was awarded life membership n 1975.
Kevin Gee – 1980 was active with the juniors and was awarded life membership. Kevin was actively involved in the juniors for many years. He was junior president for a number of seasons also served a term as president of the club. With the formation of the South Coast Branch Kevin was the foundation President of the juniors for many years. Kevin was Vice President of Surf NSW Junior association Life member – Warilla Barrack point SLSC – South Coast Branch Junior Association
Laurie Boyle -2001 was awarded Life Membership along with Tony White & Gary Trotter. Laurie joined the club in the 70's and has been involved in competition(Boats, IRB's), Nippers, patrol (still active) and for the majority of his surf club years been involved with the management side of the club, holding various positions including President, Junior Activities Chairman, Secretary, IRB Captain. Laurie’s has always exceled in the management of the Club. His knowledge of the constitution is unquestioned, Laurie revels in the governance of Surf life Saving. Laurie still holds the position of Public officer.
Bruce Webb – 2009 Awarded Life Member. Bruce is still an active Patrolling Member (gained his bronze on 30/9/56 Bondi) Bruce has been doing Patrols’ for 56 years A legendary sweep - still sweeping to day. Bruce’s crews have won Gold, Silver and Bronze at Branch, Country, State & Australian Championships. Bruce has served on the committee and been boat Captain since forever In 2014 Bruce received a gold watch for 50 years’ combined service to Surf life Saving & Warilla Barrack point SLSC.
Tom Strong – 1970 another inaugural member of the Club was a man who tirelessly promoted our club and sport in general. His legacy has passed to his children, two of whom have also been awarded life membership, and his grandchildren. Tom received his award life membership in 1970
Jim Poplin – 1978 received his life membership. He took a keen interest in the development of the juniors and the disciplines of R & R and the March Past. Jim also coached the South Coast Branch Senior Team, competed in the Flags & Beach sprint. Jim still is a member of the South Coast Board Board of Examiners and assists in the training of our members. Life Member-Warilla Barrack Point SLSC & Surf Lifesaving NSW.
Norm Barker - 1983 was awarded life membership through his active involvement with the juniors. Norm has continued taking an involved interest with the Club as a whole. He was the Club’s Treasurer for over twenty years. His contribution to the Club is reflected in the growth of the Club over the years.
Gary (Skin) Trotter -2001 was awarded Life Membership (along with Tony White & Laurie Boyle) Gary has been involved with the club since he was a nipper and is a keen competitor, especially on the ski. Like Tony, Gary has been a tireless worker for the club and a good mentor to the junior competitors coming through the ranks. Gary has held various positions within the club and has also been nominated & awarded Clubman of the year on a number of occasions. Garry has always been a keen competitor and has consistently won medals at Country and State Masters Championships.
Peter Condran – 2014 was award life memb ership Peter is still an active patrolling Member. Peter involvement began with the juniors. Positions held – JAC Chairman, Age Manager, Patrol Caption and Club Captain which Peter still holds to day. Peter has held the position of Club Caption for over a decade in this time Peter has put countless hours into the management for our patrols. Peter also rowed boats
May Henderson - 1972 Initially the senior and Junior Clubs were two distinct Clubs. May Henderson was devoted to the junior cause. Helped to form the Ladies Axillary for the Surf Club . She was awarded life membership.
Ron Strong, son of Tom, initially started his career at Shellharbour SLSC. With his father, he saw the need for a Club at Warilla and so actively promoted the formation of the Warilla Barrack Point SLSC. Ron is still actively involved in the management of the Club. He is also a life member of South Coast Branch and Surf Life Saving New South Wales. Ron received his Life membership in 1975. In 2002 Ron was awarded an OAM in the Queens Birthday Honours. In 2014 Ron received a gold watch for 5o years’ service to Warilla Barrack Point SLSC
Alan Beveridge – 1991. Is the current President of the Club and has been for the last 6 years. He has played an active role in the development of all facets of the Club being responsible for junior development and club competition. He was awarded life membership in 1991. Alan career in surf lifesaving began when he joined the club as a nipper. Alan is still an active patrolling member Alan has holds/held the following positions – Patrol Captain, Vice President, Club Captain, and Treasurer and is the current President. Alan was awarded Clubman of the year on serval occasions and was selected in the 1st South Coast Branch Representative Team. Coaching – Illawarra Branch teams, South Coast Branch Team, NSW Junior State team (for 7 seasons), NSW Country Team to contest the tri-Series against New Zealand, Central Coast & NSW Country. Alan has coached this team on eight occasions. Alan also coached an Australian Junior display team. Competition - Alan was selected on several occasions to represent the South Coast Branch at the Interbranch Championships. A highlight for Alan was his selection in a NSW State team to tour USA & England. The team tour was for 6 weeks. Alan also served as the State Junior Superintendent (Competition)
Tony White – 2001 was awarded Life Membership, along with Gary Trotter & Laurie Boyle Tony has a long association with Warilla-Barrack Point SLSC, he is an active patrolling member, active competitor having won numerous medals at Country, State, Australian & Masters events, Tony's dedication to the club is evidenced by the number of times he has been nominated and awarded Clubman of the year. Positions held by Tony – Patrol Captain, Vice President, First Aid Officer and Chief Instructor
Vic Strong - 1979 Vic was awarded Life Membership. Vic, along with his brother Ron and father Tom , was a foundation member of our Club. He was later to be awarded Life membership of South Coast Branch. A tireless worker for the Club, he continued working for the Club, even after he had been diagnosed with his terminal illness. He was, at different times, Club Captain, Vice President and Chief Instructor. Vic died on 6 September 1997. The passing of Vic was keenly felt by all those who knew, respected and admired him. In recognition of his role in our Club , the Vic Strong Memorial Trophy was introduced for the patrol-person of the year. The initial recipient was Phil Hayward
Tony Glass – 1979 received his award life membership. A keen sportsman for the municipality and former Club captain. Tony was an active patrolling member, A keen sports man attended carnivals to watch our members compete. Unfortunately business and family commitments has meant a move interstate.
Ken Pearson – 1991 was also awarded life Membership. Ken joined the club as a Cadet, a long serving patrol member. Ken has held various positions in the Club including –Publicity officer, Secretary and President. Ken loved competing in Surf Races in fact any water sports. Ken competed at Branch, Country Championships and State Masters with a great deal of success Ken was in the 1st South Coast Branch Team in 2014 Kenny received a Gold watch for 50 years’ service to Warilla Barrack Point SLSC. Ken now runs the Warilla Oldies
Martin Smith –2008 was awarded life membership. Warilla Barrack Point’s 16th Life Member. In 2004 Martin was named as NSW coach of the year. Martin is a long serving Patrolling Member of Warilla Barrack Point SLSC. Martin Represented Illawarra Branch (this is before the formation of the South Coast Branch) - at the Inter-branch Championships Martin was selected in the 1st South Coast Branch Team. Martin was Club Captain for a season, served on the committee & was Head Coach for over a decade. Martins Coaching Career began coaching the juniorsThen he moved to Head Coach where he put our competitors to the forefront of competition at Country, State & Australian Championships. As head Coach Martin and his competitors won 13 Sydney Water Surf Championships.In 2004 Martin was named Surf Lifesaving NSW coach of the year.Martin was an outstanding swimmer winning may Championships, also was a handy ski competitor. Teaming up with Gary & Tony to medal in many ski relays masters events
